Making your own juicer recipes involves a lot more than just throwing a few fruits together. These are some guidelines you can follow to help you invent some delicious, super healthy juices.
Perhaps the most important thing to consider when creating a juice is that citrus juices and "sweet" juices do no often mix. Citrus juices include obvious fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, limes and lemons, but also passionfruit, kiwi, pinneaple. Basically, any juice that has a large amount of acidity.
The "sweet" fruits include all berries (although strawberries fall somewhere in the middle), apples, bananas, mangos, pears, peaches, and nectarines. Although there are exceptions to the citrus/sweet juice rule, it is a good place to start.
When it comes to mixing vegetables and fruits, there are no basic rules. You just to know which vegetables are best for juices, and what flavors they go well with. Carrots are one of the most common vegetables used in juices, especially carrot-orange juice. Carrots also go great with most other citrus juices. You can throw in pinneaple or pink grapefruit, and you get a really delicious juice.
Beets are also a great vegetable for juicing, not just because they are packed with vitamins, but because the juice is very sweet. Beets go good with the "sweet" juices, especially with apples, although beets mixed with blueberries or raspberries are also phenomenal.
Greens can be used in juices as well, but for the most part, do not mix well with most fruits. Bananas are one tasty option, and greens mixed with ginger are also delicious. Other than that, you are better off mixing greens with other vegetables.
Inventing your own juicing recipes often involves a lot of trial and error. The good thing is, even if the juice you made isn't all that tasty, you will at least be drinking something that is very tasty.
To finish off, here is a one of my favorite juice recipes, that most people have not tried. It is an apple-orange-ginger juice.
Ingredients:
1 McIntosh Apple
1 Granny Smith Apple
2 oranges
1 inch of fresh ginger
Wash all fruits well. Add to juicer, and enjoy!!
