How's that commercial go - the touch, the feel of plastic, the fabric of our lives? Something like that...anyway, regardless of the accuracy of my recall, plastic is the fabric of our lives - our drinking lives anyway. Plastic glassware comes in 31 buzzilion different flavors - everything from Solo style disposable glasses to the Tradeau insulated plastic glass brilliantly designed for both sipping and brewing tea on the go.
Whether you're sipping an adult beverage by the pool or getting paid to drink and converse at the office water cooler, plastic is more durable, versatile and almost always cheaper than its glass counterpart.
Say for instance, you run a diner, or have a ton of family and friends running inside and out of your kitchen throughout the day, you don't want to spend a ton of money on glass glasses from a department store only to run the inevitable risk of having them shatter at the feet of a startled child. Nope - don't want to do that at all. You can pick up a 12 pack of 16 ounce tumblers for less than a buck a piece, which are just as washable and a heck of a lot more durable than glass any day of the week.
Mentioned just a moment ago was the fabulous marvel of insulated plastic glassware. Well, Tredeau makes a tumbler that allows you to brew hot tea in a travel vessel, and keep it warm with its innovative insulated design for at least two hours. We all know the crazy daily hustle and bustle you get yourself wrapped up in. This sucker is just as resilient as your life style, coming equipped with a five year warranty...not to say that you're only going to live for five more years...unless you're really old.
Several times on this site, I've mentioned the value that plastic glassware has at a party, particularly a large one. You have guests fumbling around with adult beverages in their hands, daring your luck to make them drop them all over the floor. With the acrylic stuff, particularly the disposable breed, all you have to worry about is cleaning up the spill...although they do make plastic sippy cups - you may want to suggest that to Uncle Bob on his fifth martini. Of course, for the first four he can still sip his cocktail in style because every cocktail, wine, champagne glass and beer mug made from glass and crystal has a plastic cousin that's cheaper, and a heck of a lot easier to clean up.
Again, there's almost no imaginable sipping or slurping scenario where this durable, low cost, versatile material doesn't win hands down over the shatterable stuff. If you want to drink with peace of mind, choose plastic glassware...yeh, it's really that important to me that you do.
